Frank David LaFAZIA, Jr.
Born on March 19, 1943 in Bremerton, Washington and died peacefully at his home in West Seattle from complications related to Crohn's disease and cancer treatment on June 17, 2013. Frank is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Ann; son, David (Velvet); daughter, Andrea Nalani LaFazia-Geraghty (Kyle); four beautiful granddaughters, Malia (7), Emelisa (6), Anastazia (5), and Audriella (3); sister, Shirley Ann (Tom) and a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins and friends. Frank graduated in 1961 from O'Dea High School, and in 1966 from Seattle University with a degree in education followed by master degrees in counseling and education. Upon college graduation, Frank went back to O'Dea for 22 years first as a teacher and for 20 years as counselor and vice principal. Frank then went to work for the Aberdeen School District for 13 years as the middle school counselor.
Frank's sports passion was track and field, first as an outstanding athlete in high school, holding the school record for years in the 880, mile, and 2 mile, and all-city miler for each of his four years of high school. Frank served as head track and field and cross-country coach at O'Dea for close to 20 years, and as teacher and mentor to CYO coaches for Holy Rosary Grade School. Frank had an extraordinary sense of humor and he found joy and irony in everyday events and especially in people. People often sought Frank out for advice on seemingly thorny problems and his response was always "what's the issue?" and then deal with that issue and let all the other stuff go. Co-workers, friends and family acknowledge that advice as "Frankissum". Frank's attitude throughout his life and through his final illness was "it is what it is" and then you go on and deal with "what is" as best you can.
