Frederick G. Greaves Jr.

Frederick G. Greaves, Jr.

January 30, 1923~March 18, 2013

Preceded in death by parents Frederick G. Greaves, Sr. and Ottilie Mueller Greaves, and infant son David. Survived by wife, Anne Preston Greaves, whom he married on June 12, 1948; five adult children: Richard (Jeannie), James (Susan), Mark, Doug, and daughter, from a previous marriage, Leslie Greaves Radloff (Max); four grandchildren: Michael (Amy), David, Daniel, and Ali Marie; and two great-granddaughters: Ella and Anna.

Fred, Daddy-O, was born in Tacoma but moved to Seattle where he attended grade school, middle school and graduated from Lincoln High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army Corps serving in the Phillipines during World War II. Upon discharge he returned home and enrolled in the University of Washington where he was member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and graduated in 1950.

Fred and his wife Anne were long-time Magnolia residents actively involved in the community and their church, Magnolia United Church of Christ, and with the Boy Scouts of America.

Daddy-O will be sorely missed by family, friends and those who knew him. He courageously fought the complications of aging, meeting each new challenge with characteristic good humor and wit. We were blessed to have had him in our lives as husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend.

Special thanks to all who cared for him at Swedish Hospital Cherry Hill - the cardiac team both doctors and nurses; staff at Horizon House where he lived, as well as individual caegivers.

A memorial service will be held at Magnolia United Church of Christ on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 1PM with a gathering in the church fellowship hall immediately following.

Memorials may be made to: Howard and Lucy Preston Endowed Scholarship in Business Finance, UW-Foster School of Business, Magnolia United Church of Christ, Chief Seattle Council Boy Scouts of America, or donor's choice.

Rest in peace, Daddy-O, you fought the good fight.
