Gwendolyn (Gwen) Motherwell

Gwendolyn (Gwen) Motherwell

Gwendolyn (Gwen) Motherwell passed away peacefully in her home in Kirkland, Washington on April 23, 2013. She was born July 25, 1926, in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, to Frank and Bonnie Stetler, the only daughter after two boys, James and Richard. Gwen grew up in Oklahoma where she met and married her late husband, Robert B. Motherwell, in 1951. Robert B. Motherwell was a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force for 27 years and the family relocated

many times, spending three years in Germany in the 1960s, and back and forth between California and Washington over the years. Gwen loved to sew at her commercial serger, garden, cook and entertain. She donated to and supported many philanthropic causes. Her mail box was always overflowing with solicitations from her favorite charities.

She loved to read The Cat in Hat Comes Back so much to her young grandson Martin Williams that she had it memorized. Gwen was an animal lover and her little dogs Millie and Suzie brought many years of joy to her life. She also enjoyed watching game shows, golf and baseball. Gwen was a consummate lady with an eye for beauty and style.

She always made it a point of pride not to wear or purchase anything black, always blue or her favorite, purple. Gwen was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue for many years and was devoted to her faith.

Gwen is loved dearly by all who knew her. Generous to a fault, she will be remembered for her great sense of humor and incredible story telling.

Gwen is survived by her children and their families: her son David Motherwell, his wife Becky and their son Bobby; daughter Joan Williams, and her son Martin and his wife Libby; and many nieces and nephews spread out across the United States. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Robert Motherwell, and her son in law Dennis Williams. We long for the day we will join our dear mother in heaven with the Lord.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 1pm, in the Chapel of Sunset Hills Funeral Home, 1215 145th Pl SE, Bellevue, WA 98007.
