Irene Astri (Helling)(Post) Dick

Irene, age 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Jan 29, 2013 at Ida Culver House Broadview in Seattle. Irene was born April 2, 1926 at her parent's farm in Mt View near Sumner WA, the daughter of Knut and Ingeborg (Gjernes) Helling. Her two surviving brothers are Ernie and Andy and she was preceded in death by 4 of her brothers Art, Melvin, Ken, and Ben.

Irene was previously married to Lawrence H Post in 1946 who passed away in 1960. Irene married her surviving husband of 49 years Gordon W Dick in 1963, suddenly going from a mother of two to a mother of 5 sons. They are Stuart D (Molly), Dan P (Sue), Larry P (J'Anna), James D, and Brian D (Kyle). She adored her grandchildren, Joni, Amy, Jennifer, Ryan, Megan, Hannah, Heather, Jesse, Jacob, Zachary, Yestin, Kayci, and her great-grandchildren Dylan, Jackson, Grace, Samantha, Allison, Lindsay, Katie, Cayli, Elizabeth and Josephine. Irene was a kind and loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, and soul mate to her husband Gordy

Irene always had a smile for anyone she met, making many friends as a UW Food Center cashier, church member, and Ida Culver resident. With family and friends, she joined in activities from backpacking to skim boarding. Her impromptu dancing captivated her grandchildren. Besides riding her bicycle to and from her UW job, Irene traveled to Japan, Hong Kong, Norway, and Italy. Irene was proud of her Norwegian heritage, wearing her Bunad dress at special events or occasions. Irene was a big support to Gordy and his career with the YMCA. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held for her March 2nd at 1:00 PM at the University Congregational United Church of Christ, at 4515 16th Ave N.E., Seattle WA 98105. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the .
