James J. Manos
1918 ~ 2012
A funeral for Jim Manos will be held on Monday, December 10 at 11:00 AM at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2100 Boyer Ave. E, Seattle, WA 98112. Jim was born in Seattle to parents John and Helen Manos. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1936. After high school he performed as a wedding singer among other pursuits. His love of music lasted throughout his life. He enlisted in the army
during World War II
and served in the medical corps in the European theatre in England, France and Germany.
After the war he returned to Seattle and began his career working in a pharmacy. One day, the love of his life entered the store - Vicky Couman of Vancouver, BC. He and Vicki were married in 1947 and their son Jon was born in 1950.
His next career change took him to his life's work - sales and executive positions in the pharmaceutical industry. He was a perennial national salesman of the year, leading to his position of national sales manager of ICN pharmaceuticals. Subsequently, he was president of Manos Pharmaceuticals and Pacwest Marketing. Much of his professional career centered around work with the Pay'n Save Corporation, and he counted many of his relationships there as lifelong friends.
Jim was the first child baptized in the original St. Demetrios Church, and was a member throughout his lifetime. He served as president of the St. Demetrios community, and was a tireless volunteer with wife Vicki at the yearly festivals. He was also an active member of the Masonic lodge.
After Vicki died in 2002, Jim moved to the Ida Culver House, Ravenna. He served as president of the resident council for many years. For the last two years of his life he lived on Capitol Hill with his son Jon and daughter-in-law Anne. Jim was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend. His sense of humor and bright outlook endeared him to all who knew him. He is survived by Jon and Anne as well as his grandsons, Nick and Tom Manos and Nick's wife Mary. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
