James Rufus Anderson Jr.

James Rufus ANDERSON Jr. James Rufus Anderson Jr. born in Brazil, Indiana on February 25, 1922 passed away November 14, 2010 at the American Lake Veterans Hospital in Lakewood, WA. Jim served his country as a Tech Sgt. in the Army Air Force 99th Pursuit Squadron. He received 9 Battle Stars and the Tuskegee Airman Congressional Gold Medal for his dedicated service to his country. Professor Emeritus from the University of Washington, Jim joined the UW School of Social Work faculty in 1968 until his part-time retirement in 1982. He loved reading, music, TV, family and cooking. He had a witty sense of humor and loved to engage in lively debates. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Fern G. Anderson; children James R. Anderson III, Reginald H. Anderson, StephenE. (Cathy) Anderson, Pamela S. (Jerome) Stroschein and Carla J. (Bryan) Harris; 10 grand-children, 9 great-grandchildren,1 great-great-grandchild and a loving family. A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, November 23 from 4-8 p.m. at Tuell-McKee Funeral Home, 2215 Sixth Ave., Tacoma, WA 98403. Private graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA.
