Joan Chupka Ganson

Joan Chupka Ganson

Joan died on October 6, 2013, in Redmond, Washington, following a 15-month battle with Burkitt's lymphoma. She was born on March 2, 1931 in Pittston, Pennsylvania, to William and Tessie (Valinchus) Chupka. After graduating from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Joan moved to Tinton Falls, New Jersey to teach. Here she met Oakley Ganson, whose youngest brother, Stu, was a student of hers and introduced them. They were married in Red Bank, New Jersey in 1954 and relocated to Washington State in 1962.

Joan went to work at Harborview Medical Center in 1968 and retired as Material Manager in 1991. After retirement she loved traveling in RVs and living in Ocean Shores, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother William A. Chupka; sister Barbara Shore; and her son Glenn Ganson. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Oakley Ganson; daughter Nancy Ganson Braun (Paul); and sons Kurt (Hae Suk), Eric (Tara) and Jeffrey (Melanie). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and her beloved sister Joanne Chupka Gluck (Philip), of Wichita, Kansas.

Joan's desires were simple. She loved her family, nature, critters, RVing, reading, walking, the ocean, sunrises and sunsets. No services at her request. Any memorials to charity, please.
