Lucretia "Celeste" Bach
Lucretia "Celeste" (Odend'hal) Bach, age 86, of Seattle, Washington, passed away on June 29th at home with family. At her request, there will be no funeral arrangements. The family will remember her in a private ceremony.
A long time Queen Anne resident, Celeste was born in Seattle, Washington on September 30th, 1926. She attended John Hay Elementary and Queen Anne H.S. and after graduating in 1944, she attended the University of Washington
where she pledged the Delta Gamma Sorority. With a passion for learning, she was an excellent student.
Celeste worked for Frederick and Nelson's while she was still in school and returned to work after having her four children. She worked for several years at the Madison Park branch of Rainier Bank. Celeste was a hard worker and a true renaissance woman. Always an avid reader, she read many "how to" books and there wasn't anything that she couldn't repair herself at home while raising her four children. She was an accomplished cook, gardener, hostess, reader, intellect and as everyone who knew here knows, she had an incredible passion for all types of music. She always wanted visitors to listen to one of her many records with her.
Later in life, when her children were grown, she went back to the U.W. Experimental College and took Spanish language classes, which she continued for many years and absolutely adored. She loved the culture and the good friends she met there as well. She was an early student of Rick Steves and his classes on traveling to Europe. With her love of traveling, she put what she learned to use by taking several trips to Europe and elsewhere with her family and friends.
Celeste is survived by her only sister, Patricia Odend'hal Reid and her two sons, Duncan and Iain Reid. She is also survived by her four children, Pamela Jarosz, Alison Gleason, Tyler Bach and Noelle Bach Sturtevant, six grandchildren, Jennifer, Tara, Kirstin, Courtney, Dylan and Alex and 4 great-grandchildren. Celeste was preceded in death by her parents, Harry L. Odend'hal and Lucille Fields Odend'hal Waltz.
