Mary Jean (Galvin) Rogers

Mary Jean, wife, Mother, Grammy passed away on January 18, 2013 at 93.

She enjoyed many friendships, golf, travel, gardening and being a community volunteer.

Mary Jean was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on December 17, 1919 to William and Jessie Galvin where she spent her early childhood days until her family moved to southern California in 1935.

In 1941, Mary Jean had an eventful year; graduated from UCLA and married the love of her life, John Rogers after his return from WWII.

As a volunteer, Mary Jean developed many longtime friendships while at the Seattle Day Nursery, now Child Haven, Cascade Children's Orthopedic Guild, #18 Arboretum Guild and PEO. She was a member of the Women's University Club and served on the board, Sand Point Country Club and an active member of the University Congregational Church for 61 years.

Mary Jean and John loved to travel and spent time in southern California near her sister Irene and husband Don Sproul and summers at their favorite retreat, Port Ludlow.

Mary Jean was preceded in death, by her husband John, Jimmy (son of Jim), Leslie (wife of John, Jr.) and her sister Irene. She is survived by her children John, Jim (Trish), Nancy Tolan (Ed), seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

The family expressed their sincere appreciation to Adrian and Cecilia Filip in Bellevue who provided many years of special care for their mother and B.J. Marshall, her care companion for several years.

A memorial service will be held at University Congregational Church (4515 16th Ave N.E., Seattle, WA 98105) on Wednesday, January 30th at 11:00 a.m.
