Mary Louise McCann
Mary L. McCann Died November 28, 2012, after a 4-year battle with cancer, but the cancer never defined her. Despite constant reminders of its cruel presence, it was-in the end-just a plain gray speck of particulate lost in the rich seascape of her life. A seascape that included a husband, three children and six grandchildren who adored her. She left heart-shaped notes in lunch boxes and attended every miserably-acted school play, even when her child had only a minor role as a mushroom. She loved vacationing with her kids at Kayak Point, Hawaii and Mexico, had a cocker spaniel that was nearly bisected by a garage door and once let her son keep a pet rabbit in his closet. These are the kinds of things people will never forget. They will remember how beautiful she looked on her wedding day and her scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese, and how she did everything she could to make the lives of her children as bright and interesting and as full of love as she was. She never turned down a bedtime plea to 'tell me about the world, Mom' and always managed to make it seem a far less confusing and sad place to be. Her children and grandchildren were with her when she died, and though barely able to whisper, she had saved enough of her voice to say; 'I had the best life...' . And when it hurt her just to breathe, she was still able to call up a smile for her heartbroken teenage granddaughter on her final visit. The world is still confusing, but only because she's not around to explain it. And while she was here, Mary did everything in her power to make it a little less sad.
Mary is survived by Jerremy Spurgin (son); Jennifer (daughter), Eric, Mackie, Dominic and Adrian Freeman. Harmony(daughter), Ben, Kai, Juno and Addilyn McNelley.
