Mildred Evie Sandstrom

Mildred Evie Sandstrom passed away on October 30, 2012 at the Ballard Manor Retirement Home. She was born on February 9, 1914 in the front bedroom of the home her mother and father built on NW 78th St in Ballard. She lived there most of her life except for the early years of her loving marriage to Lloyd Walter Sandstrom. She worked as a Fancy Gift Wrapper at the Bon Marche as a member of the Retail Clerks Union. She retired in 1979 to become a full time Grandmother to her grandchildren, Sandra Cuypers (Eric) and Erik Sandstrom (Kimberly). She will be missed by her son Michael and daughter-in-law Lauriel, her sister Gladys Allerdice and her many nieces and nephews. Because of her stroke in 2001, her great granchildren, Rebecca, Cole, Conner and Wyatt never heard her speak but they know in their hearts how dearly she cherished them. She lived a long, full life with a smile and encouragement to all, playing Santa for the Sheehan family, au pair to the Sandstrom pets, attending craft workshops at the Swedish Club and social gatherings for the retail clerk "girls." Her support and scorekeeping for her Seattle Mariners is legendary! She was a member of the Order of Runeberg #101, Frihet Lodge #401 and Swedish Club. She willed her body to the U of W Biological Research. A Celebration of Her Life for family and friends will be held at the home of Tom and Dorothy Sheehan at 1:00 pm on November 10, 2012. Her family requests donations be made to the Red Cross or consider making a donation of blood or list yourself as an organ donor.
