Oddlaug Rasmussen, 85, of Seattle, passed away on December 11, 2012 at Aegis Living Center at Northgate, following a long illness.
Oddlaug was born on September 22, 1927 in Verdal, Norway, to Ole and Inga Herstad. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1947. She met her husband, Finn Rasmussen, in Seattle during the 1949 earthquake. They were married in 1950 in Brooklyn N.Y. Oddlaug and Finn returned to Seattle in 1952.
Oddlaug was very active in the Seattle Norwegian community. She was a member of Leif Erikson Lodge #1 in Ballard for nearly 50 years. She was a pioneer in the building of Norway Park at Lake McMurray, spending many hours on work parties helping build the park.
Oddlaug was a bookkeeper, and served as treasurer for Leif Erikson Lodge for many years. She was very proud to be the co-founder, along with her friend Bjorg Johnsen, of Kaffestua, a popular meeting place for Lodge members and guests to enjoy coffee and food.
Oddlaug was preceded in death by her husband Finn and her son Art. She is survived by daughters Linda (Jay) Laatsch, Birgit (Ray) Daniels, Ingrid Rasmussen and son Greg (Kathryn) Rasmussen. Also, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and sister Signe survive her.
Oddlaug was a strong, hard working person known for her commitment to her friends, her family and her community. Her quick wit and charming personality will always be remembered.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on January 5th at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, 7500 Greenwood Ave. N. A reception will follow at Leif Erikson Hall, 2245 NW 57th St.
