Osby Childress Jr.
Oly (Osby) Childress of Renton was born in Lynchburg, VA, on March 19, 1942, and died unexpectedly on January 30, 2013. The youngest of three children, he joined the Navy at 17 and soon found himself "on the ground" in Viet Nam. After 20 years of travelling the world, he retired in 1980 as a Senior Chief (E-8) and decided to stay in Washington State. Oly worked at Boeing for a few years and then went to Metro King County for the remainder of his career, retiring as a Millwright in 2008.
He is survived by his wife Diane (Ramsay) Childress, his daughter Karen Childress of Goose Creek, SC, his sister Elnora Childress Stubbs and husband Roy Stubbs of Huddleston, VA, and his step-brother William Brooks of Lynchburg, VA. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kathi Childress Cockerham of Goose Creek, SC and his brother Jimmie D. Childress of Lynchburg, VA. He has four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren in SC.
Oly (as he was known on the West Coast) or Boonie (as he was called on the East Coast) was larger than life. He often told anyone who would listen how great his life had been. The last few years were hard on Oly because of debilitating back pain and increasing evidence of dementia.
At Oly's request there will be no service. Please send any remem-
brances to an animal welfare organization of your choice.
