Patricia Ann Smith

Patricia Ann Smith

Patricia Smith of Seattle, Washington, passed away at home on March 17, 2013. Pat was born on August 24, 1928 to Timothy and Anna (Schafer) Gleeson. She graduated from Montesano High School and went on to attend Dominican College in San Rafael, California. She later graduated from University of Washington where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. After graduation, Pat worked as a librarian at The Seattle Times. There she met her husband, reporter Lane Smith, whom she married in 1952. They shared many happy years until his death in 1998.

Pat was a homemaker who enjoyed traveling extensively. She was curious about people and loved exploring different cultures. She was particularly interested in Pacific Northwest Native American History and served as a docent at the Burke Museum. In 2009, she moved into Horizon House where she pursued her other passions as a member of their movie and food committees. It goes without saying, Pat loved all things Seattle - especially a Starbucks short drip, SAM, Ivars clams and chips, the Fauntleroy Ferry, the Rep, the Duck, and Espresso Explosion ice cream.

Pat is predeceased by her youngest son Christopher and survived by her children, Sally Mathewson (Keith) of Seattle, Tim Smith (Kathy) of Glendale, CA, Shannon Smith (Ron) of Newhall, CA, and her daughter-in-law Janet Upjohn of Los Angeles; a sister, Trudy Halverson and brother-in-law George; and grandchildren Emily (Stephen), Carl, Sam, Charlie, Gleeson, Isaac, and Stuart. A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 PM on, April 4 at St. James Cathedral, 804 9th Ave, Seattle. Reception to follow in the Pastoral Outreach Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Washington State Parks Foundation, the Burke Museum and St. Labre Indian School.
