Raymond L. Mathis

A life-long resident of Queen Anne Hill, Ray was born April 5, 1926 and died January 3, 2014. After graduating Queen Anne High School in 1944, he served in the U.S. Army. He was proud to have been a 32-year veteran of the Seattle Fire Department, retiring as a Captain in 1982.

A kind man of few words and a wry sense of humor, he spent many enjoyable post-retirement years helping fellow QA residents at Five Corners Hardware with his handyman expertise. He was also active with his church and was known as "Uncle Ray" to many children.

Ray is survived by his wife Lena, daughters Debbie (Dan), Donna (Lou) and Deanna (Joe), granddaughters Nora, Sara and Rebecca, and his brother Mel Mathis. Preceded in death by his brother Loren Mathis and sister Lois Jackson.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014, Queen Anne Lutheran Church, 2400 8th Ave West, Seattle.
