Ronald Dennis Perry
Faithful Husband, Leader
and Steadfast Friend
1946 ~ 2013
Family, friends and colleagues deeply mourn the sudden loss of Washington native, Ron Perry. On February 26th Ron died suddenly of a heart attack and returned home to the Lord.
Ron grew up in Spokane where he attended Gonzaga Prep. He attended Seattle University as part of their Honors Program and graduated in 1968. Then he went on to the University of Washington
, earning a Ph. D. in History in 1975. In Spokane he met his beloved wife, Linda. After she graduated from the University of Washington, they married and made their home in Seattle. They cherished 32 years of marriage before losing amazing Linda to cancer 11 years ago. Together, Ron and Linda celebrated the gift of life through travel, cooking, cultivating friendships, honoring family, and their shared love of dogs.
Professionally, Ron leaves a significant legacy of public service over more than three decades. He served as a budget auditor for 25 years with the Washington State Legislature and most recently as Deputy County Auditor for King County. As an experienced auditor, Ron provided instrumental leadership in the development of strategic planning, performance management and reporting. Ron's colleagues applaud his contributions and mourn the passing of their colleague, but more so, the passing of their friend.
Ron was a steadfast friend to all who were lucky enough to know him. He had a gift for making people feel special and for encouraging them to be their best in everything, every way, every day. Ron was also a quiet leader and builder of community. Those who knew him feel the deep sorrow of his loss but can lift their heads and realize how many people they now count as friends because of him.
Ron and Linda loved their Labrador Retrievers and were active in the Puget Sound Labrador Retriever Association, Rainier Hunting Retriever Club, and Washington State Obedience Training Club. Ron was on the Board of Directors of all the clubs, serving multiple terms as president; he immersed himself with the dogs attaining great success in AKC Hunting Tests, Obedience and Rally trials and Conformation. Ron's accomplishments include multiple Junior, Senior and Master hunting test titles, multiple Companion Dog and Companion Dog Excellent Obedience titles; in conformation he had the incredible distinction of back-to-back Best In Show titles at the Seattle Kennel Club show. Over the years, Ron was devoted to all seven of his Labrador "kids". He was extremely proud of his yellow Labrador Nick (BIS American Canadian Champion ShaRays Nikolas of Whidbey CD JH RA), winning eight Best in Shows, over one hundred Best of Breeds, 30 Group placements and most recently the AKC Grand Championship title. Ron and Linda and their dogs were also passionate about helping people through Pet Partners/Delta Society therapy work.
Ron will be greatly missed by his brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Sally Perry; his sister-in-law, Judy Curran (John); his sister-in-law, Debbie Poppy (Bill); his cousins, Father Rich Perry, S. J. and Bob and Anne Perry; numerous other cousins; and his nieces and nephews: Geoffrey and Lindsay Perry; Gina Perry and Todd Heesch (husband) and their sons, Oliver and Wilson; Joel and Pamalee Perry and their son, Jackson.
