Sally Nahmais Alhadeff
Sally was born in Seattle on November 14, 1916 to Simontov and Dona Nahmias, Sephardic immigrants from Istanbul, Turkey. She passed away peacefully on December 19, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Sally grew up in the central area, where she attended Pacific Grade School and graduated from Garfield High School in 1934. Sally was an active member of the Seattle Jewish community and past president of the Congregation Ezra Bessaroth's Ladies Auxiliary.
In 1940, she married the love of her life, David J. (Dixie) Alhadeff and they spent 40 wonderful years together, until his death in 1980. Later, she married Morrie Steinberg and they shared 18 years of marriage.
Sally lived 96 wonderful years! She was a unique and amazing woman. She loved life, she loved people, and everyone who was lucky enough to cross paths with her always felt welcomed and accepted. But, above all, she cherished her family. Her children and their friends always thought of Sally as "the cool mom". She was a 4'11 little ball of fire and was always the life of the party. In Sally's world, the sun always shined.
Sally was preceded in death by her husbands, David J. (Dixie) Alhadeff and Morrie Steinberg and brothers Marco, Joseph, Mike, Sabati and Albert. She leaves behind her three children; Barbara Hasson (Bobby), Joey Alhadeff (Louise) and Michael Alhadeff (Elaine), sister Ventura Israel, brother Isaac Nahmais, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to pay tribute to her caregivers, Chris McCoy and Karen Wells who provided Sally with the most amazing loving care. We are forever grateful.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 21st at Bonney-Watson Funeral Home, 1732 Broadway in Seattle. Remembrances can be made to the Seattle Sephardic Brotherhood, Congregation Ezra Bessaroth, or the
