Samuel (Sam) Francis Best
Born February 26, 1919 in Yakima, WA. Passed away on March 14, 2013. Thankfully, he made it to his 94th birthday.
Here are the details Father wanted in his obituary:
Graduate of Yakima Senior High School. Enlisted in the U.S. Army
prior to World War II
with the 7th Infantry Regiment, Third Infantry Division. Served in North Africa and European Theater. Discharged in 1945; re-enlisted in 1947. Returned to the European Command in Heidelberg, Germany, where he met and married his wife, Charlotte Schroeder of St. Paul, Minnesota. Subsequently assigned to Ft. Lawton, in Seattle, and Ft. Richardson, Alaska. Retired in 1961 in the grade of Master/Sgt. Employed by the University of Washington
and retired after 20 years of service as a police officer
That may be how he wanted to be remembered, but primarily, his friends, family, and fellow members of Haller Lake United Methodist Church will remember his kindness, his generosity, and his dry sense of humor. He and his wife Charlotte were inseparable from when they met right up to her death on Easter morning, 2008. Loving husband, occasionally stern (we had it coming) and supportive parent, active member of his church community, this gentle, quiet man will live on in the hearts of anyone who had the good fortune to be part of his life.
Survived by Marianne (Best) Arpin and Lauralee (Best) Smith, daughters. The Memorial Service will be held on April 6, 2:00 p.m. at Haller Lake United Methodist Church. If anyone wishes to make a donation, please make it to Haller Lake United Methodist Church.
