Tom Y. Hayashi

Tom Y. Hayashi, DDS passed away on Sept 18 , 2013, after a brief illness and at the home of family. Tom was born January 10, 1927 to Kitaro and Mitsui Hayashi. During WWII Tom and his family were sent from their home in Portland to the Tule Lake and then Minidoka Internment Camps.

Tom graduated high school in Camp, relocated to Des Moines, Iowa, served in the US army, and graduated from the UW dental school in 1957 after which he maintained his practice for 40+ years. Tom enjoyed his dental practice, golf, skiing, vacationing in Hawaii, family, friends and sushi.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, George and Roy. He is survived by his brother Frank (Yaye) Hayashi of CA, sister Lillian (Akira)Horita and nieces and nephews.

Tom made the world better with his outstanding care of his patients, and as a caring,compassionate person, son, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service for Tom will be held on Oct 19, Saturday at 12:00 noon at the Evergreen Washelli Chapel, 11111 Aurora Ave No.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the organizations named by Tom: the Nisei Veterans Committee, 1212 S King St, Seattle 98144; Nikkei Concerns, 1601 E Yesler Way, Seattle 98122; or Densho, 1416 S Jackson St, Seattle 98144.
