Albert N. Beers

Albert "Al" Nathan Beers passed away at 91 in his home in Shoreline, WA on June 8, 2017.

Al was born May 1, 1926 in Eugene, OR, the second of three siblings to David Omega Beers and Vida McLean Beers. After the deaths of both his parents by the time Al was 13, he went to live with his cousin Pearl and her husband Joe Ellingson on Sweet Creek. Pearl and Joe became Al's adoptive parents, and they shared a close bond for the rest of their lives.

Al's freshman year of college was interrupted when he enlisted in the Navy in April of 1944, just weeks shy of his 18th birthday. While his convoy was on its way to Japan, the war ended, and their landing in Tokyo Bay was one of celebration. Al returned to resume school and meet his future wife, Joan Seits. After a courtship of about a year, Al and Joan married on June 12, 1949, celebrating with a brief honeymoon traveling south along Highway 101 in Oregon.

After graduating from Oregon State College with a degree in engineering, Al went to work for Honeywell in Seattle. He took keen enjoyment in gardening, fishing, Mariners games and road trips with his family, including regular working visits to the family ranch in Mapleton, OR. Al was a devoted member of the #1800 Elks Lodge.

Al is survived by his wife of 68 years Joan, son Jim, 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law Jim and Billie Faulkner; sons-in-law Gary (Donna) Turner and Holden Withington.

Al was preceded in death by his daughters Debbie Turner and Linda Withington, and grandson Shelby Withington.

A memorial service will be held

for Al at 3:00 pm Monday, June 19

at Wedgwood Presbyterian Church

8008 35th Ave. N.E., Seattle.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Elks National Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
