Betty Hughes Obituary

Betty Hasbrouck HUGHES Betty Hasbrouck Hughes (83) died on November 5, 2011 at her home in Lake Forest Park, WA where she lived for 54 years. Born in Elma, WA, Betty graduated with honors from WSU in 1949 with a degree in English. She was married to Bob Hughes of Satsop, WA from 1949 until his death in 1992. In Seattle, she worked at the Seattle Times and KING-TV, and became a community activist in many social, environmental and political causes. Betty is survived by daughters Lauren, Pamela and Peggy, son Laurence, sister Virginia Cornett, and a wide circle of beloved family & friends. Remembrances suggested to the YWCA or PCC Farmland Trust, or plant a seed or write a poem in Betty's honor. She would like that. More info/photos: http://bit.ly/bhhughes

I remember Betty very clearly. I was a 13 year old boy from
arkansas in my first class at Elma high. I was a sophomore and very nervous. I can't describe her coat but I still remember how pretty she looked as she sat beside me. I was so self concious and shy but she was so beautiful and nice.I would think about her every night. Wanted to take her to a movie or something but she was too much for me. I did try to improve my letter writing when she was at WSU. In spite of my attempts to be interesting and charming and fake atempts to know something about Milton, I was a failure. About five years later I did meet someone very beautiful and charming just like Betty. We have three daughters and one son . Just like Betty. I am sorry that I've waited 66 yrs. Too late. Nadine, my wife, would have loved her too.
