Beverlei Hoerlein Obituary

Beverlei (Nuzum) Hoerlein

Beverlei passed away peacefully at home December 21, 2016 with family by her side. Bev was known for her warm generosity, creativity, sharp mind, and wit. She cared deeply for her friends and family.

Born to Ralph Nuzum and Anna Farrell Nuzum February 1, 1929, she graduated from Yakima High School, then Whitman College where she joined Alpha Phi, was ASB secretary and Mortar Board honoree.

She taught elementary school in Seattle, Hawaii and San Bernardino before her marriage to Paul Hoerlein, a Whitman classmate, in 1954. She continued to teach in Seattle until starting a family in Lake Forest Park. A loving mother of four, dedicated volunteer in schools and community, Bev also found time for genealogy research and substitute teaching. In 1980 she embarked on a fulfilling 20-year Kirkland-based real estate career. Her sense of adventure led her and Paul to live in Connecticut and England and to travel widely on six continents.

She is survived by her husband Paul; children David Hoerlein (Jane); Pamela Mach (Roman), Diana Gruman (Peter), and Jonathan Hoerlein (Stephanie); and 8 grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents and brother Ralph.

Memorial service Sat., January 28th at 2:00pm at Kirkland Congregational Church, 106 5th Avenue, Kirkland. Donations in her honor may be made to Kirkland Congregational Church.
