Carol Grieser Obituary

Carol Hudson Grieser

Carol Hudson Grieser died peacefully on December 11, 2017 in Seattle, Washington at the age of 76. She is survived by her husband James, sons John and Michael and their families, including grandchildren Emma and Miles.

Carol was born October 4, 1941 in Reno, Nevada to Emanuel and Lillian Hudson. In 1959, she graduated from North Salem High school in Salem, Oregon and then from Colorado Women's College in 1961. She married Jim that same year and later attended the University of Oregon Medical School where she earned a degree in Medical Technology. Carol and Jim moved to Lynnwood, WA in 1963 where she began work as a Medical Technologist. Soon afterward they had two sons, John and Michael. Her children remember her as a very patient and supportive mother who valued family time sailing in the San Juan islands, summer vacations on Lopez island and winter ski trips to Sun Valley, Idaho.

Carol was a self-taught, accomplished and creative cook and leaves her sons to carry on the daunting tradition of cooking Julia Childs' recipes during the holidays. Friends and family remember her as a very generous and compassionate person who loved a wide range of music, art, and animals (especially Wire-haired dachshunds). Carol was passionate about living life on her own terms throughout her struggle with Multiple Sclerosis and, with amazing strength and resilience, refused to let the disease define her life.

A celebration of Carol's life is scheduled for Noon on February 25th at the Civic Club in Lake Forest Park, Washington. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carol's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Humane Society or National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The family would like to thank Carol's caregiver and friend Sarah Szpak for her dedication, companionship and friendship throughout the last few years.
