Celia Scott Obituary

Celia Mae Scott

Celia Mae Scott, aka "Scotty", 96, passed away February 2, 2013. Scotty was born in Vancouver, WA, daughter of Charles and Elda Scott. She graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and Stephens College. She earned a PhD. in chemistry from The Ohio State University and worked for the Armed Forces Schools in Germany following WWII. Scotty moved to Seattle and taught chemistry in high schools and Shoreline Community College. She worked in public safety at the U of WA.

Scotty was an accomplished musician and a founding member of The Cascade Symphony from which she retired at age 90. She sang for many years with the University Presbyterian Choir. Scotty is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews and many friends who had the pleasure of knowing a truly unique individual.

A memorial service will be held at 10 am on March 2nd at Emerald Heights Retirement Center, Redmond. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to The Cascade Symphony, 8523 - 215th Street S.W., Edmonds, WA 98026.

Dr. Scott was my high school chemistry teacher at Shoreline High School in the early 1960's. She influenced my life with her independence, opinions, and strength. In the 1960's it was hard to find an example of those qualities in a woman and I valued that, even then.
