Cleata McIntosh Obituary

Cleata Gunn McIntosh

Cleata Gunn McIntosh passed away at age 95 on June 28, 2013 in Lake Forest Park, WA. She was born in Tacoma, WA on June 13, 1918 to George and Cleata Gunn. The eldest of four sisters, Cleata was raised in Seattle where she graduated from Garfield High School. She studied Home Economics at the University of Washington and was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority.

In true Northwest fashion, she met her husband and love of her life, Richard David McIntosh, on Hood Canal. They were married in 1941 and enjoyed 63 years together. During Rich's career at IBM, Cleata made a home for their children and volunteered in the communities they lived, including Seattle, Spokane, Honolulu, La Canada, CA and Darien, CT before returning to Seattle in 1971. After retirement the couple explored the world on freighters and the Northwest on their Grand Banks yacht. They spent many happy years dividing their time between Port Ludlow, WA and Palm Desert, CA.

Cleata loved best to spend time with her three children and their families. She was an extraordinary quilter and left a legacy of beautiful handmade quilts that her family will treasure for many generations. She enjoyed a good party, clams, things that sparkle, keeping up with current events, reading, dancing and travel. She was proud of her country.

She is survived by her son, Richard David McIntosh (wife, Janet), daughters Cam (Cleata) McIntosh Secrist (husband, Don) and Nancy McIntosh Pascoe (husband, Scott); grandchildren Richard McIntosh, Robert McIntosh (wife, Suzanne), Annette Cole (husband, Carter), Joel Secrist (wife, Chris), and Phoebe and Phaedra Pascoe; great grandchildren Gibson and Robert McIntosh; and sister JoAnne Nichols. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rich McIntosh, and sisters Gloria Prince and Nancy Vinsonhaler.

A private family memorial has been held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances in Cleata's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
