Dorothee Hayman Obituary
Dorothee Ellen Hayman, 92, departed this life to be with the Lord on March 23, 2016, at her daughter's home in Big Rapids, Michigan. "Dolly" lived most of her life in West Seattle and Bellevue, Washington. She is survived by her five children: Brian (Esther) Hayman, Andrea (Don) Glassett, Sid (Jenny) Hayman Jr., Barbara (Paul) Eirikson, and Anita (David) Cowles. She has eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is survived by two nephews, Don (Karen) Hopen and Gary (Dolly) Haakenson, their children and grandchildren, and the children, grandchildren and a great-grandchild of nephew, Ken Hopen (deceased). She is preceded in death by her husband, Sid Hayman Sr., sister, Astrid (Dede) Hopen, brother, John Howard Haakenson, and her parents.
Born Dorothy Haakenson in Seattle, she exhibited an amazing musical talent at the age of four, when she began to regularly play the piano. By age 14, she was substituting for pianists at church. She graduated from Seattle Pacific College with majors in music and education in 1946. For over 60 years, she blessed others with her God-given talent, as she served seven churches in Seattle and Bellevue, and was the musician for weddings and funerals.
Dorothee taught elementary school for several decades, in Seattle and Shoreline Public Schools and Bellevue Christian School. She passed along to children her excitement about reading, introducing them to C.S. Lewis' The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe. She passed down to her own children a love of geography, reading, history and the origins of words as part of a good vocabulary.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 15, St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 4400-130th Pl. SE, Bellevue. Memorial donations may be made to Bellevue Christian School - Choral Department http://www.bellevuechristian.org/support/donate/.

It was a pleasure to have met Dorothee who was a gift to her family and community. She visited our church a few times with her son Brian and her daughters, Andrea and Barb. Thank you for your remembrance to Bellevue Christian School. May Dorothee's memory be eternal.

Condolences from Bellevue Christian School where Dorothee and her husband Sid served for many years. She blessed so many students with her talents and passion for learning. Hers was definitely a life well lived and a blessing to many.

My sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of Dorothee. I knew Dorothee from her days as organist at St Madeleine Sophie Parish. Though I was administrator, Dorothee kept me "grounded" with her music and her many requests to keep our organ in pristine condition. Beautiful organ,beautiful music and a beautiful person.
Dorothee was blessed by the Holy Spirit with magnificent musical talent. Our Parish was blessed with her music.
May God bless Dorothee as she blessed us.
