Dorothy Shiveley Obituary

Dorothy I. SHIVELEY January 15, 1917 ~ February 24, 2012 Dorothy met her end times after a long and full life. She was born in San Pedro, California to Charles Samuel Ingham and Katheryn Charlotte Merwin Ingham. She married John Pierce Shiveley at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in San Pedro in 1938. In the post-war years they settled in Seattle (Shoreline) where they raised their two boys, Phillip and Richard. Dorothy was a navy wife, mother, homemaker, great cook and avid gardener. She was an accomplished seamstress, sang in the church choir and with the Seattle Chorale. Dorothy enjoyed her role as family matriarch, grandmother and great-grandmother. From her childhood, Dorothy was active in Episcopal Church life. After his retirement from the Navy and from teaching, John became a deacon in the church and Dorothy took great pride in being the Deacon's Wife. Dorothy was active in church guild work (St. Agnes Guild) until the last couple of years. She is survived by: her sons, Phillip Shiveley (Alice) and Richard Shiveley (Cathy); her grandchildren Sally (Steve Soran), Jill Shiveley, John Shiveley (Nicole) and Robert Shiveley; and her five great-grandchildren, Veronica, Michael, Phillip and Sophie Soran and Harry Shiveley. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Dunstan's Parish on April 28, 2012 at 11am. Remembrances may be made to: St. Dunstan's Parish (Outreach) 722 N 145th Street, Shoreline, WA 98133.
