Elenor Loarie Schoen

After recently celebrating her 99th birthday, Elenor Loarie Schoen-born October 2, 1916, in Chicago-died at her home in Shoreline, WA, on October 15, 2015.

In 1941, she married Paul Eugene Schoen, a dentist, who later volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Force. Over 56 years of marriage, they raised six children, living first in Leavenworth, Kansas, then Lakewood, WA, and later, Seattle after Paul retired from the Veterans Administration. When Paul died in 1997, Elenor moved to live with daughters, Teresa and Elenor, in Shoreline.

A freelance author, she was still being published up to 5 years ago. She was also a dedicated volunteer: initiating a Catholic high school's parent organization and vocational guidance counseling in Leavenworth, testifying in favor of desegregating a local Kansas swimming pool, running a church resettlement program in Lakewood, teaching religious education, and serving on the parish council there, and providing homes and resources for women in crisis pregnancies.

She is survived by her children: Paul (Mary Kay), Teresa, Elenor, Annemarie Muth (Ken), Suzanne Harmon (Rod) and Honor Leitzen. She has 11 grandchildren:

Annemarie Schoen (Mike Groenert), and siblings Kathleen (Pete Bixler), Michael Schoen, and Claire (Bryan Gorman); Tom (Cate) Harmon, and siblings Becky, Ken, Nick (Jessie), and Will; and, Richard Leitzen (Stephanie), and David Leitzen; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial and rosary will be on Tuesday, October 27, 10:30 AM, at St. Mark Catholic Church, Shoreline, WA. Reception will follow at St. Mark's. Burial at Holyrood Cemetery.
