Elizabeth Smith Obituary
Elizabeth Mary Lundin Smith
Elizabeth Mary Lundin Smith,
beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on March 20, 2017 at Evergreen Hospice after a four month battle with pancreatic cancer. Elizabeth was born in Kansas City, MO on June 9, 1932 to Leonard McCoun and Geneva Flygare McCoun. She grew up in Omaha, NE, attended Carleton College in Northfield, MN and graduated from Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, IL in 1954.
Elizabeth married George Lundin on June 20, 1953. They moved to Seattle with their twin daughters on Seafair weekend 1955. Together they had seven children, eventually divorcing in 1973. Once a stay at home mom, Elizabeth started a successful career with Windermere Real Estate. It was there that she met her husband Ivan Smith. They married on December 26, 1984 and spent many wonderful years
together traveling the country in their RV visiting friends new and old along the way. When they weren't on the road, Elizabeth loved to be at her home in Lake Forest Park. Her house brought her so much joy and she loved to decorate it for the holidays. She would have her huge Christmas wreath up by Thanksgiving (her favorite holiday) along with her vast collections of Carolers and Christmas houses. She and Ivan celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary shortly before her passing.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband Ivan Smith, children Lynn Phipps, Becky Fann (Mike), Martha Wilson (John), Roy Lundin (Kim), Amy Pelly (Richard), 19 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 3 step sons and 1 step daughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Lester (aka Buster), infant daughter Kathryn and daughter Sheila Campbell who passed away from cancer in 2016.
Mom was the kindest, most generous person we have ever known. She served everyone with an open heart. She always had a place at her table for anyone who needed a mom, or a family or just a meal. She was famous for her gingerbread cookies, coffee cake and wontons and loved to watch the birds at the bird feeders out her window. She endured some incredibly difficult times in her life with grace and forgiveness...a testament to the person she was. She was a longtime member of PEO and talked fondly of the sisterhood it provided. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew her.
A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, May 10, 2017
at 2:00 p.m. at
Ronald United Methodist Church 17839 Aurora Avenue North, Shoreline, WA 98133.
In lieu of flowers remembrances can be made to The Salvation Army. Heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers and volunteers at Evergreen Hospice who took such loving care of mom and all of us her last week.
Rest In Peace mom. God broke the mold when he created you. We were so lucky you were ours.
