The odd thing is, I hardly knew Elspeth. She was an Oregon State College classmate whom I encountered, but did not get to know at all well personally, during occasional student gatherings. But here's the thing: Elspeth had a blazing brilliance that I could never forget. Anyone with a love of language found her fluency downright hypnotic.

I've often wondered, throughout the last 67 years, what her lebenslauf looked like. Just now, the latest OSU magazine took note of her death, and I immediately looked her up. I was very happy to see that she lived a long and fruitful life, putting her remarkable abilities to good use. And her children should know how she lit things up back as OSC during the intense GI Bill days just after WW-II.
