Gary Harrison Obituary
Gary was born December 28, 1943 and is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Pearl.
Gary who was a loving father, P pa, nephew, cousin, uncle, friend and neighbor, passed away February 9, 2018 at 74 years young. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2015. He fought courageously and although he was still a youthful soul, he passed away from multiple complications of cancer. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa and son-in-law Mark Voigt and two grandsons, Jacob and Cole.
Gary attended UW, graduated ITT Technical College and served in the US Army, all of which prepared him for an over 30-year career with the Seattle School District as an IT manager. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, camping, fishing, boating, traveling and had a true appreciation of music. He treasured everything "techy" and could often be found listening to TED talks and podcasts. He was a wealth of knowledge and was often helping family and friends with their computer troubles. His life motto was to never stop learning. Gary's adored friends were like family to him and he cherished them all.
For nearly 20 years, Gary shared his knowledge and friendship with everyone in the Shoreline Auxiliary Communications Service (Ham Radio). This group supports the City of Shoreline as well as King County and Washington State when requested. He advanced the teams capabilities by providing training and education in all forms of digital communication as well as maintaining computers in all Ham Stations in each Shoreline fire station. He was always available to solve highly technical issues with skilled operators as well as mentor beginners. He enjoyed meeting over coffee with friends. He was a stable and reliable force in our lives and we miss him dearly.
His sense of humor and quick wit were a trademark of his. He had a passion for all things funny. Gary is missed every day and life is simply less grand without him here with us.
