Geneiva Goudeau Tate peacefully passed away on April 29th 2015 after a short illness. She was born on June 24th 1930 in Muskogee Oklahoma and spent most of her childhood living in California. In her early 20's she moved to the Seattle area and was a licensed practical nurse. She later graduated as a registered nurse with honors Dean's List from Shoreline Community College. She worked at a host of hospitals including University of Washington, Pacific Medical Center, Harborview retiring in 2002 at age 73. She was instrumental in the formation of the Mary Mahoney Nurses Association and mentored other Black women to enter the nursing profession.

Geneiva was laid to rest at Mt. Tahoma Cemetery next to her husband Eddie L. Tate (WW2 Veteran and retired appraiser for HUD). Her sister Lula Lewis and brother Pete Goudeau all preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her sister, Lillie Buford, four children: Don Brooks Tate; Azani G. Tate; Marcia Tate Arunga and Monica L. Tate; Five grandchildren: Owuor Arunga; Ebony Arunga; Nia Arunga, Geneiva Arunga and Michael Tate, four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
