George Plumis Obituary

George G Plumis

Dear husband, father, brother, friend and "Papou," George G Plumis passed away at home on February 10, surrounded by his family. A larger-than-life presence with an even bigger heart, George graced his community with positivity, generosity and a lifetime of service: teacher for at-risk and special needs students at Seattle Public Schools; Parish Council President at St. Demetrios; founder, Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church; Sergeant, Army National Guard. He dedicated his summers to helping with the family business, Riverside Beverage, and to mentoring a generation of kids as longtime director at All Saints Camp and as a leader for Boy Scouts Troop 72. Born in Seattle July 7, 1938 to Theodora and George A. Plumis, George was a proud graduate of Seattle Prep and University of Puget Sound, where he was an All League football player. He is survived by wife Diana; sons Ted (Kim) and Greg (Bond); grandchildren Melia, Alexander, Marko; siblings Fran Barnecut, Alice Panagakis, Paul Plumis; and many beloved nieces, nephews and godchildren. May his memory be eternal-and may he be eternally "never better." Trisagion and memorial at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, Shoreline on February 14, 7 p.m. Funeral at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Seattle on February 15, 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, George requested support for the Holy Apostles building fund or All Saints Camp.

Extremely sad to hear of George's passing. He was truly one of the good guys.

My favorite story about George was one time at a picnic we were discussing potato chips and George thought it was funny that it said on the bag - 12 servings. He said that he figured each bag was one serving; a large bag-a large serving and a small bag-a small serving.

May his memory be eternal.

George was genuinely the sincerest person I've ever met. The love he showed my daughters and I was truly a gift. I always gravitated to him at any family function, because the energy he gave was magnetic. The world has lost a wonderful human being, but as my daughters have reminded me, Papou George is now in heaven spending time with everyone else we have lost, watching over us.

George was a truly great man who will be missed by all who knew him. So sorry that we will miss his memorial as we are currently in Antarctica, but we will be their in spirt. Sending love and prayers to Diana and the boys.
