Gideon Powell Obituary
Gideon LaVergne Powell (a.k.a Turk) entered the Kingdom of Heaven Thursday, November 28, 2013. He was born October 15, 1946 to Morgan Powell, Sr. and Patricia Ray Powell in Seattle, WA. He grew up in the Leschi and Montlake areas of Seattle. He graduated from Nathan Hale high school in Lake City in 1966.
Turk met his future wife Kathie Elliott while working as a shoe salesman at Nordstrom's. Married January 26, 1970, the Powell's welcomed two sons, Matthew and Aaron, raising them in Shoreline, WA. A strong man of God, he was an enthusiastic and much beloved member of Christ Church Kirkland. A gifted artisan, he worked for Interior Floor Design for 35 years as a tile setter.
In 2004 the Powell's received a call from Turk's biological daughter looking for her father. He had not previously known of Amber's birth 44 years ago. She and her children were warmly welcomed into their family.
Over the years, Turk battled Hodgkin's Lymphoma, prostrate and lung cancer. Though he finally lost the battle to brain cancer, he never lost his positive attitude, caring heart or sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Ray Manning. He is survived by his wife Kathie, son Matthew Alan (Jennifer) Powell of Edmonds, WA and their children Anna and Adam, son Aaron James (Heidi) Powell of Lynnwood and their children Ayers and Jude, daughter Amber Hawkins of Atlanta, GA and her children Carl, Camryn, and Breanna, and her grandchildren Leilani and Kai, brother Morgan LaVance Powell of Tacoma, WA, sister Deborah Garrison of Atlanta, GA, sister Michele Herman (William) of Auburn, WA, brother Arthur Manning of Newport News, VA, stepfather James A. (Jeanne) Manning of Tacoma, WA and in-laws Bob and Pat Elliott of Sierra Vista, AZ.
Turk's memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, 12/21/2013 at Christ Church Kirkland, 11725 NE 118th St, Kirkland, WA 98034. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the EvergreenHealth Foundation, Hospice Services, 12040 NE 128th St, MS 5, Kirkland, WA, 98034-3013.

We were so very sad to learn Gideon had passed. Everyone here who worked with him and the hundreds of customers who came to know him loved him. He was gentle and kind to all. He will be missed.

I know Turk many years ago. We worked together at Lockheed Shipyard and were good friends. I know him as Vern and we were I believe good friends. I have missed him for along time. I hope that now he is in a better place.
