Gladys Mast Obituary

Gladys Pauline Mast

September 6, 1920 ~ April 9, 2018

Gladys Pauline Mast, beloved wife, mother, and "Grams," passed away on the morning of April 9, 2018. She was 97 years old and spent her last moments on earth surrounded by family.

Gladys was a force of nature and will be remembered for her kindness and compassion, sense of humor, and her ability to forge connections with anyone. She was an avid reader, traveler, and enjoyed nothing more than soaking up the sun on a beach. Gladys was passionate about her family and loved her grandchildren dearly.

She was born in Condon, Oregon to Scott and Vivian Neel on September 6, 1920. As a young girl, Gladys moved to Portland, OR with her mother and sister, Norma Jean. Not long after, Gladys and Norma Jean moved to Seattle, WA where they lived on Capitol Hill. Gladys graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938.

In Seattle, she worked as one of the iconic Frederick & Nelsen elevator operators. Gladys then became a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines where, one day, she met a man named Fred R. Mast who encouraged her to meet his son. That chance encounter turned into a lifetime of love.

Gladys married Ralph Kramer Mast and had four children, Fred, Stephen, Diane, and Suzanne. They lived in the Magnolia neighborhood before moving to Bellevue, WA where Gladys was one of the founders of the Bellevue Arts Fair. They settled afterwards in Shoreline, WA.

Gladys ended her career working at Weisfield Jeweler's for over thirty years.

Her husband Ralph preceded her in death as well as her sister, Norma Jean Davis, brother David Neel, her parents Scott and Vivian, and her grandson Gregory.

She is survived by her brother Tom Neel (Patti), sons Fred (Ellen) and Stephen Mast, daughters Diane Francisco and Suzanne LaCasse (Mark), grandchildren Marlene, Daniel, Elliott, Alexander, Laurelle, and her great-grandchildren Duncan, Mia, Oliver James, and Brianne.

We love you with all of our hearts, sweetheart darling. Forever and always.

I was blessed to have Gladdie in my life. She was kind, generous, and a calm voice in a chaotic world. She was a great role model for my children, and always greeted everyone with a smile. You are missed so much. I love you.
