Glenn Ellen "Happy" (Auld) BATTSON Ellen "Happy" was born July13th, 1918 on Orcas Island, Washington and departed peacefully on January 31, 2012at Rosewood Courte in Edmonds, Washington. Though she had dementia in her final years, Ellen maintained her sweet attitude and "happy" smile. Her 93 years were full of high energy, music, nature and volunteer work. A l936 graduate of Orcas Island High School she worked atMt. Rainier Lodge, Bloedel Donovan Lumber Co., St. Paul-Tacoma Logging Co. and the Standard Oil Co. She was an elevator operator in the former Jones Bldg in downtown Seattle. In l941 she married Glenn Edwin Battson and they lived near Green Lake where she often picked up litter to beautify the area. Her violin and piano music filled their home. In the l950s she and Glenn joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars, marching in the annual Memorial Day Parades. Ellen was president of her VFW Auxiliary, a member of the American Legion and volunteered at many PTA and church events in the Seattle area. Then in the 80's, after their retirement, they moved to their family summer place at OakBay (on the Olympic Peninsula) where they lived until January of 2002. At Oak Bay, Ellen especially enjoyed playing her violin with the Pt. Townsend Community Orchestra. Glenn and Ellen celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2006 at Keystone Church where they were married. Ellen is survived by her children Vic Battson (Jackie) of Seattle, John Battson (Ann) of Renton, Dale Battson (Cindy Estrada) of Salem, OR, Dawn Battson Stranne (Brett deceased) of Novato, CA and her sister Betty Hedge of Shoreline, WA. Surviving grandchildren include Eli Corbin, Paul Battson, Jhenette Stranne and Christian Stranne and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. There are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Ellen was predeceased by her husband Glenn, parents Ethel Lohman Auld and Ray Auld, brother Bill Auld, and sister Keren Lommer. Services will be held on Saturday March 3l at Keystone Congregational Church 50l9 Keystone Pl. N. Seattle at l:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to Calvin Presbyterian Church of Shoreline, WA.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
