Harold Brindle Obituary

Harold Alexander BRINDLE Born in Ketchikan, Alaska in 1934 to Harold and Ethel Brindle, Harold passed away in Seattle on April 13, 2012 at the age of 77. Although he was raised in Seattle, Harold was a true Alaskan at heart. He graduated from Seattle Prep in 1952, and the University of Washington in 1956 with a degree in engineering. It was during his junior year in high school that he met Colleen Youngs, the love of his life. Over the years, Harold and Colleen shared many adventures, including raising their 6 boys; Joe, Bill, Doug, Mike, Jim and Dan. There was never a dull moment in the Brindle house. Harold always had a soft spot for dogs, and there were many that he shared his heart with over the years, including Brandy, Meat Head, Angus and Maggie (1 & 2). He began his career as an engineer with Alcoa, and his work for Alcoa culminated in several patented inventions that helped to improve food quality and modernize food safety and quality standards. In 1965, Harold went to work for the Wards Cove Packing Company until he retired as Senior Vice President in 1999. Harold will be remembered as a pioneer in the Alaskan seafood industry. He was both an expert in manufacturing, and an innovator who sought new ways to diversify and expand the Company's business to global markets. He served on a number of key industry and government boards, including positions as past Chairman of the Pacific Seafood Processing Association (PSPA), and leadership roles in the National Food Processors Association (NFPA). Harold loved spending time on Whidbey Island during his retirement, but most of all he loved keeping track of his family.A phone call with Dad/Grandpa could last a few seconds or an hour, but either way we knew he was always there for us. We'll miss you Pop. He is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 57 years, Colleen Brindle, five sons Joe (Audrey), Bill (Jennifer) Doug (Shari) Jim (Kathy) and Dan (A-Ping), 16 grandchildren, many cousins and countless friends. His son Michael preceded him in death earlier this year from complications related to diabetes. He was a wonderful, loving and generous man who touched the lives of many people. A funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Saint Luke Parish, 322 North 175th Street, Shoreline, Washington (phone 206-546-2451), with a reception following. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, any contributions or donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Dear Brindle Family,

While I did not know Harold well, his presence in the Alaska seafood business was impressive.

Please accept my sympathies on his passing.

I would guess that he is now walking the field with his dogs.

Best regards,

I would like to extend my condolences to Colleen and to her sons & family. Growing up in the neighborhood Harold employed me at CWF-Kenai in 1969. From then onward I maintained a sizable sense of admiration & respect for HB. He was sharp as a tack, a straight shooter, loyal to his people & industry and as capable an individual at any manner of skills as one might be fortunate enough to meet. Thank you Harold, it was my good fortune to benefit from your having been here. Good fishing to you.

I was so lucky to see Harold on a regular basis at the neighborhood QFC! We always had a good chat, and many of those chats were on the topic of his beloved dog at the time! He was a favorite of mine, a gentle heart in a big rugged exterior. I will miss our chats! My best to all the family, keep those memories close! Stacey Stanford
