Helen Evans Obituary
Helen Lavera Pratt Evans, 95, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2016. She was born July 22, 1920 in Wisconsin which was her primary residence until moving to Seattle in the 1950s. Helen married the love of her life, Robert J Evans, in August of 1965. With her new husband came 5 teenage children, Donna, Carol, Jim, Steve and Bert. Later in life she recalled that her family came in batches: first 5 children, then unexpected twin granddaughters, sons-in-laws, daughters-in-laws, more grandchildren (14 in all) and finally great grandchildren (17 plus 2 to arrive this year).
Helen and Bob called Edmonds their home where they resided for more than 30 years. In 1976, Bob took a 3 year work assignment in Iran which opened many doors for new friends and travel adventures. Returning home from Iran Helen became involved in many community activities including the Edmonds Art Festival and Edmonds Garden Club. Bob and Helen enjoyed sharing their home with friends and family hosting many a dinner or bridge game.
Helen was a long-time member of the Lake Forest Park Presbyterian church, having joined in 1957. Her church community included the Mariners Couples, the women's committees, and representing her church at Presbytery. She was well known for her soups, pies and willingness to lend a hand where needed.
Helen was a proud member of the Chapter A, PEO where she supported the fundraising for women's scholarships. She served as a board member and faithfully attended meetings well into her 90's. The sisterhood of PEO was dearly cherished.
Helen was predeceased by her beloved Bob in 2006 and sister, Naomi Salzwedel in 2013. She is survived by her children Donna Larsen, Carol Speaker, James Evans, Steven Evans, Bert Evans, their spouses, 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Helen's life will be on Monday, March 28th, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Lake Forest Park Presbyterian Church, 17440 Brookside Blvd NE, Lake Forest Park, WA 98155.
