Hettie Kinner Obituary

Hettie Lee Kinner

Hettie Lee Kinner passed away on November 1, 2016. "All Saints Day". The perfect example of resilience and strength as she battled cancer since 2011. This dedicated Christian lady was born in Iowa City, Iowa. Hettie and sister Mary moved to the Seattle area just before WWII. The family lived in South Seattle where Hettie attended Cleveland High School. She was a cheerleader and remained close with many of her Cleveland friends throughout her life.

It was May 1955 that Hettie went on a blind date with Lloyd. Lloyd said he knew on that first date that Hettie "Was the One". Hettie and Lloyd were married on March 23, 1957. While Lloyd served in the Army, Hettie was able to go everywhere with him. The Army eventually sent Lloyd to the Landstuhl Army Medical Center in Germany. Daughter Shayne was born while there in 1958. After fulfilling their Army duty, they moved back to the Seattle area. Son Gary joined the family in 1961 and David was born in 1967. She was always very proud of her children and their accomplishments.

Hettie was always active in her church families while attending Zion and Lamb of God Lutheran Churches, both in North Seattle. Her faith was deep rooted and she lived her entire life dedicated to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, family and friends.

Hettie worked for the Shoreline School District where she had a huge heart for her students with special needs. She knew her way around the kitchen like no other, had a knack for entertaining and loved to be the hostess at holidays, birthdays and many other celebrations with her family and friends. In retirement Hettie and Lloyd enjoyed a busy social calendar where they cruised the world, enjoyed many vacations with family and friends, attended parties, weddings, reunions and remained active until a week before Hettie's passing.

Hettie was preceded in death by infant sons Lloyd Jr., twins Paul and Eric, mother Ruth Gabriel, father Arnold Backen, step father Roy Gabriel and sister Bobbie Jo Buck. She is survived by daughter Shayne Nagel, son Gary and daughter in law Mary Ann Kinner, son David and daughter in law Gail Kinner. Grandsons Eric Nagel, Joe Kinner and David Christian Kinner, Granddaughters Erin Nagel and Nicole Kinner. She is also survived by sister Mary Vanderlinden, many close extended family members in the Kinner, Tobin and Esser families and of course her many dear friends.

The family would like to thank the following for their loving care of Hettie. From Seattle Cancer Care Alliance; Dr. Gadi, Dr. Schmitt, Sanaz Sahari, Annette DiJulio and infusion nurse Kim. From Swedish Heart and Vascular Institute; Dr. Neil Siecke.

A memorial service and reception will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church located at 7050 35th Ave. NE, Seattle Washington at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday November 19th.

Condolences to Lloyd and family at Hettie's death from the Callahan Clan.
P.J. and Lloyd were colleagues in the Marketing Dept. at Pacific NW Bell. A workplace friendship grew to a special friendship between these 2 fun couples. I know that P.J. and Marty enjoyed socializing with you both and the regular contact that continued in the Retirement years. A very special lady is now with the Lord.

It's hard to articulate what I will miss most about Hettie. She had so many virtues and such a loving and welcoming personality. She made everyone feel special and valuable by always being interested in our lives and what we were involved with at the time. A very talented lady in many aspects. Hettie was a model to me of Christian values and love. She studied her Bible regularly and was very knowledgeable of God's word. Hettie's love for Jesus Christ is the assurance of the eternal joy she is living now. I am so grateful for all she has taught me.
