Howard Inouye Obituary
Born July 5, 1930, to parents Tsuyoshi and Yayoi Inouye, Howard entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 13, 2015.
"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful servants." Psalm 116:15
Howard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty; children, Craig (Lisa) Inouye, Jeanne (Kenji) Kumai, Janice (Kimo) Spray, and Steve (Miku) Inouye; and grandchildren Rachel, Jonathan Kumai; Daniel, Jessica, Kayci Spray; and Amana, Emma Inouye.
A Celebration Service will be held Friday, November 27, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at Aurora Church of the Nazarene, 1900 N. 175th St., Shoreline, WA.

I was in 3 math classes with Howard. Apart from that he became a gracious mentor.

(Written March 25, 2023) I was in Howard Inoye's algebra class during CAJ days (early 70s) and recall his remarkable teaching skills +genuine connection he had with us kids.
It was sometime around the year 2000 I discovered this same instructor (Howard) had been on staff at the Kings High School in north Seattle both before & after my boyhood years spent in Japan. The reason I found this extremely interesting was because I retained vivid memories of my family staying a couple weeks at the nearby hotel called Kings Garden. The lush green lawns spotted with chattering sprinklers really amazed me. This was summer of 1964, immediately after my 2nd grade in Karuizawa Japan. Having just arrived by Northwest jet we had to wait for funds to arrive before driving cross country to Michigan. How we afforded this extended stay I do not know.

Howard went to Heaven 2-3 days after my brother Frank Noell. Frank loved math.
I was taught not only math, but grace and truth by Mr. Inouye.
He was a role model.

When I was grappling with the seemingly incongruent events of the internment camps during WW2 with God's Word in Romans 8:28, Howard reminded me that it is more important to have a godly response to our circumstances. Howard had wisdom that could have only come from the Lord because he immersed himself in His Word! Thank you, Howard, for your example and for your God-glorifying life!

We have such good memories of Howard, and of Betty and your family, too, and we want to extend our heartfelt sympathy to all of you. We look back with deep gratitude for the years we spent with you at CAJ. Barbara and I enjoyed many hours of good fellowship with you in Japan and also in Seattle.
Howard had the rare ability to have uproarious fun with students in his classroom while at the same time maintaining good order and teaching well. He was an absolutely superb math teacher, and he was a blessing to students and colleagues.
I just re-read his last Christmas/New Year's letter and was struck again by his humor and his devotion to his Lord and Savior and to his family and friends. It was a great privilege to know him and work with him, and with all of you I look forward to seeing him again in the presence of our Lord. Until that day, may the Lord graciously comfort you with His peace.

I am saddened to hear of Mr. Inouye's passing. So good to know that we will all see him again some day!
Among my many memories, I share one general and one specific memory.
General: Mr. Inouye, and Mrs. Inouye too, was the kindness most respectful person I knew while I lived Kurume (1961 1973). Riding my bike over to play with Craig (we were classmates at CAJ), even when unexpected, always met with a warm welcome and an invitation for lunch or dinner.
Specific: Craig's family took me home from a CAJ, away basketball game at some Armed Services base (not sure which one). Mr. Inouye indicated that we would be stopping at the PX (BX?) for a snack. I was a bit nervous because I knew my parents did not want me ordering something expensive, as Mr. Inouye was paying. I wanted a root beer, but thought that because I wanted it so much it must be expensive. So I ordered a milk shake ! When I got home and told me parents, my dad was in disbelief! I felt terrible ... and now can laugh at it all.
May the comfort of the Holy Spirit be with Mrs. Inouye and family.

The same smile that used to greet all of us in the hallways of King's High or in the classroom! Even though it's been more than 50 years since I graduated KG in '62, what a blessing to read the memories so many have of this wonderful teacher--a truly honorable man!

How precious are the memories of our times together in Japan. Howard's love for Jesus and his love for his students were an inspiration to me. We even saw him once in awhile when we lived near them in Bothell. How blessed is the rest of God's saints.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Inouye during this difficult time. I remember him well as one of our favorite teachers during my time (graduating class of 62) as a student at King's High School. He was not just a great teacher but a very loving person who cared about the education of King's students. You were one of God's many gifts to all of us.

And the Lord said "I see that hand!" and took our beloved Mr. Inouye home to be with Him. Full of humor, bright, caring and dedicated to educating, little did we know then what a special man this was. Part of the wonderful legacy that is Kings/Kings Garden. And, yes, I still use algebra today...thanks to him. Kings Garden Class of '63.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our Uncle Howie, a true saint amongst us for so many years. If you haven't read it already, here is link to a chapter in the book, A Life Well Lived, http://www.ccel.us/alifewelllived.toc.html that was a tribute to him as a teacher. Howie will be deeply missed by all of us for his warmth, his concern and prayers for all of us and, of course, his wonderfully corny humor. Rest in Peace, Howie, you were a true servant of God and a gift to all of us.
