I miss my friend - we were together since 3rd grade. We travelled Europe together. Hawaii. We camped. It´s so hard to lose someone who has been in your life nearly 50 yrs. Even though I was in Alaska, we always got together when I flew south. Never missing a beat. Fondest memories

I am headed off to Maui soon, Jan's second home for most of her life. I will plant a seed and light a candle for her near the coast....and send her off into the great blue Pacific. It will be hard to stand where she so recently stood - without her next to me.

Jan was a bright, caring, and smart woman who was like a sister to my late husband Tom. She was an amazing member of our teams to Moldova; fearless in sharing her serenity with the needy in their suffering. Blessings to Patrick, his uncles and cousins.

So close to the Files family for so long that there are days that we still reach to grasp how quickly the world can "blink" away part of your life. Jan made a lot of people happy for years and our hearts go out to Patrick. Teri and Lambert Ross

I have been friends with Jan for 46 years. We grew up and we grew a little old together....we turned some major life corners together, and her death leaves a huge hole in my life. But I know she is not gone - I see her in the flowers, feel her in the wind and I know she is with me - forever....my thoughts go out to Patrick and family who have had such a challenging year. Her wonderful way of giving will help all of us heal. We are all blessed to have had her in our life! I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Jan in Hawaii in 1978. Her smile could light up an entire room.

Seeing Jan a few months ago at Charley's service and looking well, brought back so many memories of the times when Patrick was a baby. I will always remember her laugh, her bright eyes, and her beautiful long hair. Peace be with you Patrick, and all the family. Love Always, Donna Files

Very sad to hear of Jan's passing. I remember her as a sunny, positive person who, in our days at Whitman Junior High, simply made the school a better place. My condolences to her son.
