Jenny Phillips Obituary

Jenny Phillips

Jenny Phillips, a 16-year resident of Shoreline, died at home Oct. 3, 2012, after a peaceful night's rest. Beck's Funeral Home of Edmonds is making arrangements for a viewing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 11, followed immediately with burial at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline. Prior to moving in Shoreline, Mrs. Phillips lived in the Bothell-Kenmore area, in Vancouver, B.C., in Hong Kong, and in Malaysia. There she lived in Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Tenom, where she was born Jan. 13, 1949. Previously known as Chin Tsung Thai, she was employed as a coffee shop entrepreneur, a timber trader and an import-export clerk. After migration to North America, she became a naturalized U.S. citizen and was employed in food service and hotel hospitality. Eventually, Jenny sponsored her children and grandchildren for U.S. residency. Three grand-children lived with her and her husband Lou Phillips. Audrey Tay, Elmer Ho and Nichlos Ho attend Shorewood High School. Two grandsons live in Malaysia. Her sons living locally are Chun Yun and Chun Nyek Tay. Her daughters, Fui Chu and Wei Ling Tay, live in Malaysia. Her family included six sisters and a brother. However, she was aunt or "Mommy" to many youngsters who she sheltered and supported on the island of Borneo. Mrs. Phillips's death came after a seven-year battle against bulbar ALS, a disease of muscular dystrophy. In her final months, she received home care provided by Chen Mei Chen, family members and Providence Hospice Care of Seattle.
