Joanne (Blackman) PHILLIPS Joanne (Blackman) Phillips, a long time and proud resident of Edmonds, Washington for over 60 years and wife of William "Bill" Phillips passed away in Edmonds on February 2, 2012. Joanne was born at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington on March 29, 1928 to Joseph and Anne Blackman (a descendant of Gov. William Bradford) and she was raised in Richmond Highlands. Joanne attended Edmonds High School where she was a Cheerleader and graduated in 1946. Joanne and Bill were married in Seattle at the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church on September 22, 1950 and settled in Edmonds to work and raise their family. Joanne loved being a parent to all of her children and participated in a variety of their activities throughout the years. In addition, she was a member of St. Demetrios Philoptochos and the Edmonds Algoma Garden Club where she enjoyed both the friendships and volunteering in her community. Joanne had a successful business career opening a store at Old Milltown in Edmonds called "Basketta" which specialized in baskets and boutique gifts. Over the years Joanne expanded her stores to include one at the Landing at the Edmonds Beach and a store in Redmond. Joanne is survived by her husband Bill of 61 years of marriage, four children Debbie (George) Cooper, Karen Phillips, Kiki (Rick) Bennett, and Randy (Cathy) Phillips, three grandsons Cory (Dani) Carbary, Demetre and Christian Phillips, two great grandchildren Rainey and Cobe Carbary, Goddaughter Christina (Tim) Jennings, and Sister-in-Law Audrey (Pete) Southas in addition to many adored nieces and nephews. A family memorial service has been held at Acacia in Lake Forest Park, Washington. In lieu of flowers, suggested remembrances of Joanne may be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church - Camp Agape, Seattle Children's Hospital Foundation or Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
