John Davies Obituary

John R. Davies, M.D.

John R. Davies, M.D., a retired Seattle physician, passed away suddenly on Tuesday November 13th of a heart condition in Wenatchee, Washington.

John was born on May 20, 1930, in Great Falls, Montana to Elsie (Fletcher) Davies and Dillwyn R. Davies. He was raised on the family ranch north of Simms where he helped his father with ranching duties through both the Great Depression and World War II. John was a 1948 graduate of Simms High School, where he excelled in both music and basketball. He attended the University of Montana before enlisting in the Air Force during the Korean War.

He subsequently enrolled in the University of Washington where he later graduated from the medical school in 1961 and started further studies in psychiatry. It was at this time that John realized that his passion was in family medicine so he switched fields and began his career in family practice in 1964. John had a thriving family practice at Aurora Village Medical with his partner, Glen V. Rice until his retirement. He also served as the chief of staff elect at Stevens Memorial Hospital in 1977.

It was while John was attending the University of Washington that he met and then married Angela M. Strutzel in 1956. John and Angela began their family some seven years later and then raised their family in Shoreline, WA. They had a vacation home on Whidbey Island where they spent much of their time with their children and grand children, family and friends. John was also an avid skier and he and Angela and their family took many ski trips ranging from local ski areas in Washington State to Whistler, B.C., Sun Valley, Idaho, and as far away as Austria, just to name a few.

John retired from his medical practice in May of 1999. Sadly, in November of that same year, Angela was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease and John became her caregiver at their home until her passing in March of 2009. John and Angela were married for 53 years. Later John moved to Cashmere, Washington, where he married Leah Strutzel. They enjoyed traveling and had recently returned from a trip to Africa.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Angela; his parents; brother Douglas Davies; and nephew John Harding.

John is survived by his wife Leah; daughters Jennifer (Terry) Redinger of Snohomish, WA; Kim (Dan) McKisson of Shoreline, WA., son Dan Davies of Edmonds; and grandchildren Cole, Analise, and Danica; also his sister Grace (Warren) Harding, of Simms, MT., and eleven nieces and nephews who loved John very much.

A memorial service will be held Saturday December 1st, 2:00pm at the Edmonds Plaza Room, 650 Main Street, Edmonds WA 98020. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer s Research Foundation, 1-800-259-4636.
