Larry NORTON, Jr. Sept. 3, 1925 ~ Feb. 5, 2012 Words to describe Larry's lifeare cars, cars, cars, and golf. Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, friend, uncle, husband lived a life as big as he was - with his Chevrolet dealership, in serving his country in the Army Air Corps, with his family and friends, his travels, and his golf. He was born in Kansas City, Mo. and the family moved to Seattle in 1931 where, despite the Depression, his father established the successful Westlake Chevrolet Company. After working in nearly all aspects of the business from teenage on, Larry became the dealer and ran it until it closed in 1985. He graduated from Queen Anne High School and was a proud Grizzly football player, then enlisted in the Air Corps and earned his wings just as WWII ended. He attended the U of W but realized his true loves were cars and the family business. In 1951 he married Eileen Gibson, who predeceased Larry last November. Together they had three children: Christine Norton Cotts, Larry Norton III, Winchester Norton, and three grandchildren. In 1975 he founded the King County Auto Dealers Association which later expanded into the regional Puget Sound Auto Dealers Association. Always active in the car business and always appreciative of his staff, which were like family, Larry endowed the Norton Family Automotive Technician Scholarship for the Professional Automotive Training Center at Shoreline Community College. And his golf? ... both here at Broadmoor and at courses worldwide, wherever family travels took them. We think of him now in those heavenly "green pastures." Private family services. Remembrances may be made to his favorite: The Salvation Army.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Dad was a really terrific guy. He had a huge heart, a quick wit and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Though he really wanted to follow his passion to 'fly' following his service with the Army Air Corps, he returned home to Seattle to help with the family business.
But, once Westlake Chevrolet was sold and the three of us children were all out of the nest, he regained his wings and flew. Larry and Eileen continued their love of travel. They enjoyed a cozy home on Bainbridge Island and would spend winters at the ranch in Fallbrook, CA. Trips north and south were frequently aligned with whatever event(s) their grandkids were doing!
As a graduate of Queen Ann High School, Dad proudly wore his Ashland (OR) High School Grizzly baseball hat to his 65th High School reunion. The one that has "Once a Grizz, always a Grizz!" on the back...
Larry and Eileen (who passed away in her sleep on 11/12/11) celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 11, 2011. They shared many adventures and enjoyed raising their three children and watch with pride their three grandchildren grow into delightful, bright and carring adults.
Thank you dad and mom.
Love, and lots of it...always
"Miss Bird" (Christine Norton-Cotts)

My father-in-law, Larry Norton, Jr., was a kind and generous man. He dedicated his early adulthood to the family business, Westlake Chevrolet. Ready for a life-change he sold 'Westlake' in 1985 and pursued his own dream: a small farm of avocado and other exotic fruit trees in Fallbrook, California. Larry and Eileen created a lovely Spanish-style home in the idyllic grove. They would winter there, and their children and grandchildren enjoyed many happy holidays with them. Eileen, his wife, partner, and best friend, passed away unexpectedly November 12, 2011. Larry followed her less than three months later. He was affectionately known as "Bubba" to his three grandchildren: Hayley, Sheldon, and Connor. We will all miss his big laugh, hearty hugs, warmth and love. Bless you both, Larry and Eileen!
With deep love and respect,
Kim Norton
