Lisa Hale Obituary

Lisa Helene Hale

March 31, 1965 - February 5, 2014

All who knew our brave, wise and lovely Lisa will understand how she will be missed. Lisa often had to endure pain but she would be the first to tell you she'd had a good and full life. She liked people and had a ready smile, loved to talk, approached life pragmatically, was proudly liberal, was generous with her time and helpful when possible, a great and funny story teller and a Trekkie practically from birth (she liked the aspiration for humankind to become better).

She earned an AA degree from Shoreline CC and her BA from the UW, majoring in Political Science, on the 12 year plan (before the Americans with Disabilities Act was in place). She was accepted into the Master's program at Seattle University but health problems made that impossible.

Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Don Hale, and her sister Mary Ellen Epler. She is survived by her mother, Ellen Hale, her sisters Becky Glass and Penny Christen, brothers-in-law Bob Glass and Dave Epler, seven beloved nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews and many caring cousins and friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Providence Hospice and to Dr. Susan Baumgaertel. We'd also like to thank Northwest Kidney Centers where Lisa dialyzed for 13 years, and we'd especially like to thank the families who in their time of greatest grief donated their loved one's kidney-the last one lasted 16 years.

There will be a memorial gathering at the family home (18003 Stone Ave N, Shoreline, WA) at 2:00 pm on Saturday April 5. Dress is casual-please come hungry as we'll serve some of Lisa's favorite foods. Memorials to your favorite charities or just an unexpected smile for a passer-by.

We will also post a tribute and guest book at www.asacredmoment.com.

The brief several years I knew Lisa were not enough. Though I met her late in her life (and in mine) I was so impressed with the gentle kindness, active mind, and joie de vivre that characterized her. I wish I had known her earlier; we would have been lifelong friends.

Her most amazing smile, and beautiful Spirit! I worked with Lisa at NKC and was always inspired by her self-advocacy, independence and rather straight-forwardness :-)
Years later, we were able to reconnect. My daughter was invited to a birthday party for twins from her HS. I went to pick her up, walked in the door, and there was Lisa! (My name is Lisa also). We both looked at each other and said, "Lisa, what are you doing here?!"
It was such a blessing to reconnect with her, and see her in her element. Lisa Hale, you will be missed in body, though knowing that your Spirit is ever-present.
