Lloyd Shoop Obituary
Lloyd Tomlinson Shoop
Lloyd found heaven December 11th 2013, at age 88. He was born in Pasadena California to C. Fred and Nora Shoop. His father became the city editor of the Pasadena Star News and his mother was a school teacher. He graduated from Brown Military Academy in San Diego in 1942. At age 17, with his parents' permission, he enlisted in the Navy V12 program, completing one year at Pasadena Junior College. While on active duty, he crisscrossed the country, taking courses at various colleges and spent several months at Sandpoint Naval Air Station in Seattle. During this time, he met Betty May Schildt on a blind date. He knew that this would be the girl he married. His naval experience included completion of navigator training and promotion to the rank of ensign. Betty and Lloyd married in Seattle, March 28th, 1947, enjoying 66 years and 9 months of wedded bliss. Lloyd graduated from the University of Washington in 1949 and remained a life long Husky fan. His 38 year banking career began as a "messenger boy" with the National Bank of Commerce, and concluded with retirement in 1985 as a manager and vice president with Rainier Bank. Lloyd and Betty raised their two children, Lora and Fred, in Shoreline. Lloyd participated in local civic organizations including the Northwest Hospital Board, Boy Scouts and as a Sunday school teacher at Calvin Presbyterian Church. Lloyd especially enjoyed family vacations, traveling with Betty and driving his various cars. He was an avid reader, liked to cook, loved history and really enjoyed a good pizza. Lloyd helped build the family cabin on Lake Margaret. It was a retreat for him where he could fish, chop wood, or just sit on the deck and enjoy the view. Lloyd was soft spoken, laughed a lot, was always kind and definitely a gentleman. During the last 13 years at Cristwood Park Retirement Community, Betty and Lloyd have made many new friends, enjoying dinners together and participating in various activities.
Lloyd is preceded in death by son Fred Shoop, sisters Miriam MacLeod and Margaret Shoop. Lloyd is survived by wife Betty, daughter Lora DeVore and husband Michael, grandchildren Leah Weston (husband Jesse) and Kevin DeVore. Daughter in law Jane Shoop and grandchildren Jared Shoop, Evan Shoop (wife Miranda) and Jonathon Shoop. Lloyd's little great grandsons are Rucker Lloyd Weston and Theodore Roy Shoop.
