Lorraine Milner Obituary

Lorraine Ruth (Cox) Milner

Lorraine, age 91, died peacefully in the presence of her family on April 24, 2013.

Born July 5, 1921. The only daughter of William John and Louise Osa (Ellefson) Cox, and the fourth of their six children. She was "Sister."

Married December 17, 1943 to Amos Byron Milner in Seattle and afterward lived in Seattle, Mountlake Terrace, Lynnwood, and Everett. Amos died on November 3, 1996.

Loving mother of two: Neal Milner, Glen Milner; and daughters-in-law Shirley and Karol; grandchildren, Kellie, Robert, Aaron, Alisa, and Jacob; and great grandchildren Kayla, Kelsey, Amalia, Landon, Kennedy, Lyla and Andrew.

Graduated from Becker High School in June 1939 and from the Asbury Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis in August 1943.

Lorraine was an RN and worked in surgery at Northgate Hospital and Stevens (Swedish/Edmonds) Hospital. She often said, "If you have your health, you have everything."

Lorraine was a good person, with a strong sense for fairness for others. She loved the wind and a sunny day.

She retired from nursing at age 52 due to a health event and worked years as a volunteer at Planned Parenthood and the Mountlake Terrace Senior Center. She also volunteered in the Edmonds School District Lunch Buddy program and as a Group Health Hospice caregiver. She stood on Saturdays with Lake Forest Park for Peace for as long as her health allowed.

As a child, she traveled with her father for campaign appearances when he was a Minnesota Farmer Labor representative. She continued to follow political issues throughout her life.

Lorraine traveled with the Red Cross to cities in Minnesota and beyond to draw blood during World War II. She was able to see the start of a nationwide healthcare system, which she long strongly advocated. No memorial service per Lorraine's request.

Savor for Lorraine, the wind and the sun.
