Louis Edward CARTER, Jr.

Born Dec. 14, 1921, in Hayward, California, to Louis and Grace (Forbes) Carter; died Nov. 29, 2012, in Shoreline. He is survived by daughters Shirley (David) Urdal, Barbara (Daniel) Radin, Linda (John) Findlay; grandchildren Madalyn (Liz) and John (Claire) Urdal, Leslie and Benjamin Radin, Geoffrey and Gregory Findlay; and great-grandchildren Ava, Carter, and Ruby. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Davis.

Lou's family moved to Burien in 1923 and then to the University District in Seattle when he was in elementary school. He graduated from Roosevelt HS in 1940. After high school, he worked on a US Fisheries boat in Alaska and at Paradise Inn on Mt. Rainier. He entered the Merchant Marine just before the attack on Pearl Harbor and served on ships all over the world throughout WWII. During the war he met and began corresponding with Margaret Jean Dority, also of the U. District. They married in 1947 and remained together until her death last May. After the war, he attended classes at the University of Washington while working at various jobs including waiting tables at Norm's Cafe; on the Ave and taking complaints for the circulation department at the Seattle P.-I. In 1946, he started his own business, L. E. Carter Co., which supplied paint and equipment to auto body shops for 48 years. His hobbies included tennis, golf, dancing, bridge, chess, go, and reading.

The family will celebrate his life privately at a later date.
