Loys Lamb Obituary

Loys Walter Lamb

Loys Walter Lamb passed away in his Shoreline home on December 31, 2014 after a short struggle with cancer. He was born April 24, 1924 in Woodland, Washington, the oldest son of Cecil and Nugget Lamb. The family moved to Seattle, Washington in 1932 where Loys attended Latona Elementary, Hamilton Middle School, and Lincoln High School with his brothers, Lynn and Keith. After graduating from high school, Loys attended the University of Washington where he rowed with the Husky men's crew team. He was drafted into the Navy after two years at the university and returned to college three years later to complete his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.

Loys married Betty May Whitten, whom he had known since he was ten years old, on July 2, 1948. They had both attended University Presbyterian Church in Seattle as children. They had their first home in Lake City and later had a home built in the Innis Arden neighborhood of Shoreline where they raised their five children and lived for the rest of their lives. Loys worked for the JB Warrick Company for twenty-five years. He worked doing independent engineering work until he was 81, working part-time in the latter years. He spent many years working with Dennis Buchanan in Bellevue.

Loys grew up in difficult times. Like many of his generation, he exemplified courage and determination, and demonstrated a strong will to make his way in the world and provide for his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He dedicated much of his time to helping family and friends. In his spare time, Loys enjoyed watching sports, antiquing, gardening, and talking walks through local parks and beaches.

Loys was preceded in death by his wife Betty. He joined her just two months after her passing and after 66 years of marriage. He will be greatly missed by his children, Christine, Jeffrey, Karen, Julie, and Randy, his grandchildren, Michelle, Jessica, Lindsey, Rachel, Ashlynn, and David, and all those lives he touched. Loys also leaves behind five great grandchildren.

Services will be held on January 24th at 11:30 at First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach, 18354 8th Ave NW, Shoreline, WA 98177. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718, www.cancer.org or by calling 1-800-227-2345.
